The Royal Palace of Caserta and its Park
The Royal Palace of Caserta is the main opera of Luigi Vanvitelli one of the greatest architects of the 18th century. It was Charles III of Bourbon, who commissioned in 1752 this magnificent building and the park.
The importance of this castle lies not only in the Royal chambers, but definitely in the most remarkable park, with water cascades, grottoes, fish basins and a chaine of fountains that stretch out over a length of three km. The part oft he park, called English Garden contains plants and bushes from all over Europe, a true paradise for botanic lovers.

The Silk Manufactory of San Leucio (ahead reservation necessary)
King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon commissioned the building of this silk factory in the form of a social project. The woven silk cloth and wall tapestries were highly appreciated among European Royalties and aristocracy
The king therefore founded a social project with all workers equipped with equal rights, with equal uniforms and salaries. The following generation was also allowed to choose their partners among the members of the labor colony. Compulsory schooling existed from the age of six. Every worker had to pay also a part of his retribuition into a charity fund in order to garantue health and old age care.
Today, besides the small town also the museum of the silk factory can be visited. The weaving looms from the 18th century are still fully functional. The museum is preserved by a club of volunteers named after the historical site and through the sale of the entrance tickets.
